Solas Process

Dear customers and collaborators,

On July 1, 2016, the new regulation of the SOLAS Convention enters into force. This requires the shipper to verify the gross weight of the export containers prior to the entry of the dock container; These may not be shipped without their verified gross mass (VGM).

This implies that at the time of booking the containers, the shipper must indicate that the option indicated below will choose.

The shipper does not have a scale:

In this case Universal Logistics, at the request of the shipper, will coordinate the weighing of your expedition by incurring the following costs:

1.1. FCL Container cost: USD 50 / container (20 ‘or 40’) 1.2. LCL Shipping cost: USD 15 / item

The shipper has a scale:

2.1. FCL

For the FCL, the shipper may use either method 1 that consists of weighing the loaded container once sealed or method 2 where the loader will weigh all packages, cargo elements, pallets, packaging, fixing materials and stowage elements, adding later the tare of the container to obtain the result to be presented. In order to apply these methods, the company must be certified according to the ISO 9001 reference standard by the ENAC accredited certification company.

In these 2 cases there will be no cost as long as the shipper contributes prior to leaving the container of its facilities:

– Weighing ticket
– Name of the person responsible for weighing
– Certificate of calibration of the scale by ENAC (National Accreditation Entity)
– Container number
– Date and place of issue This option exempts Universal Logistics from any responsibility for possible costs and consequences for non-compliance with the requirements of the regulations 2. LCL A new charge will be charged for a new order of USD 15 / item – No container It will be included in the loading lists by the terminal if we do not have the VGM certificate before the CLOSING TIME indicated by the shipping company. The above costs will be revisable as the regulations are implemented. We remain at your disposal for any clarification or additional information you may need. The Universal Logistics team.
